A&K Battle Rocks

"Cute. Very different from your other works."

submission: A&K Battle Rocks
date: January 8, 2007

Ah. Finally another Legendary Frog toon. It's great to see A&K back again. The chibi style works very well here with the whole theme and being a music video, it doesn't need voice overs. I also liked how you stuck a cameo of your avatar guy in there. The animation was very fluid, though a bit heavy on tweens. But the drawing was great... no real errors and done in a very cute and stylistic way. This was a nice song to make a video of, albeit a bit slow paced which made the cartoon seem to be a little less frantic than it could have been. Overall, this style works about just as well as your other one. This was a good movie, but I just wish you would release these at a bit of a faster pace.

B.L.A.C.K. 2

"Not the greatest top down shooter."

submission: B.L.A.C.K. 2
date: January 6, 2007

The animation seemed pretty fluid although most of the rooms were empty and there wasn't that much scenery. What was there was drawn pretty well. The background music was decent for the kind of game it was and the different sfx for the guns were used in a good way. I would have liked it more if there was some splattering or blood when you shot the other guys though. The main thing that really brought the game down was the terrible AI's. There was no stealth involved at all. They would see you immediately and start shooting as soon as you were in their range so they got a distinct advantage over you. A little more movement on the enemies' part would have done well in this game too. There were many different guns to choose from, however most of them were pretty much the same. Also, even with different firing patterns, the structure of the enemies' AI made it so that the only real strategy was in shooting the enemy with the most damaging gun you have and hoping he won't kill you first. This was a decent attempt at creating a top down shooter game, but it suffered by poor gameplay. Next time, try making the AI a little more varied in its patterns and a little more objects to take cover behind.

Zelda: UO Epis:3

"The third time is the charm."

submission: Zelda: UO Epis:3
date: January 5, 2007

After being mildly impressed with your past two animations, I am absolutely blown away with this. This is a huge improvement over the first two episodes, but mainly just because it is a decent length and pretty much begins the story. Having never seen a good Zelda fan movie/fiction before, I can safely say that this is the only time I have ever seen Link's voice done well. The Zelda/anime fusion worked extremely well and blended nicely with the backgrounds. The manga flashback sequences could further immerse you into the story and the transitions were done perfectly. The sound was absolutely nailed. All the songs were played with good timing and the sound effects were timed right. I should also add that you had a great crew of voice actors. The action was done pretty much perfectly except for a couple times when characters moved just a little too quickly without much actual animation to link their movements. Overall, you did a great job and I hope this turns into a long lasting series.

(Note: Humor is bonus points because this is mainly an action cartoon.)

Madness Antipathy

"Oops... I guess I'm a bit late for the release."

submission: Madness Antipathy
date: September 15, 2006

All that action... and then you throw a fucking "To Be Continued" at me. You sure know how to torture your fans, don't you? Anyway, something that impressed me a lot in this Madness installment were the dynamic "camera" angles that were used. Small things, like zooming in and out when the guy goes through a door and big things like the over-the-shoulder prespective when he's looking at the giant clown ghost thing make the movie a helluva lot cooler. There was a reasonable amount of carnage too, and the action was pretty much non-stop. When the guy used a ripped off head as a weapon, you won 5000 cool points. Your soundtrack blended pretty well with the movie and helped give it an edgy feel. I'm still waiting impatiently for the next raging awesome Madness episode! Rock on, dude. Your stuff kicks ass.

(PS: A body count would be nice though. ^_^)

Flash Point

"This sure brings back memories."

submission: Flash Point

Although you can't quite capture the feel of using a lightgun with a mouse, you did a great job putting together all the things that made point blank great in flash. My only complaint is that the story mode should've forced you to play every minigame at least once. It's too hard to choose what game you get. Everything seemed to have been programmed perfectly and you created some very innovative and original minigames. Nice work!

"What more can I say? Absolute perfection."

submission: littleFoot
date: September 10, 2006

I don't just hand out tens anymore (except for fun stuff like Clock Day and the Sunshine craze). This truly deserved a perfect score and I personally like it much more than the YuYu. First of all, everything was drawn beautifully. This was the best art I have ever seen on Newgrounds. You did a great job with the lighting effects which are damn hard to do in flash. One of the things I liked most about Littlefoot was how you managed to create not just an animation, but the entire world of Brackenwood. Small touches like the spider and air jellyfish thing make it seem very atmospheric. I especially liked the scene where Littlefoot was running away from Bitey and how you were able to animate with the framerate so quickly and still make it look smooth. It was very easy to tell what characters were thinking and tell their story even without speech just by their actions. Although I wish there was more of it, the sound was done very well too. Between the growls of Bigfoot (is that it's name?), the eerie opening song, the noises of other characters, and the fast paced woodwind song, it added a lot to the movie. Even some of the silence helped to set the mood. The physics of the movie seemed fairly realistic such as Littlefoot's bouncing on the hills. Having the little movie control vine earns extra credit points too. Though it wasn't slap-in-the-face obvious, the humor basically pushed me over the edge to give you a 10. This is a great movie and I think it's your best one. This movie is truly unique on Newgrounds.

Chaos Faction

"This is a truly amazing game. Great work!"

submission: Chaos Faction

This game is proof that multi-character versus fighting games DO work in flash. This is so much better than Super Smash Flash, it's insane. The graphics are a bit simplistic but everything blends together seamlessly. Being able to customize your character is a plus, but I wish you could name him yourself instead of having it generated by what parts you use. Though the campaign mode of the game is quite short, six fighters at once and teams give this game much more replay value and so does unlocking all the characters and levels. You used a pretty good selection of Paragon tracks that go well with the game but your own song, Lost in Rio, was also great. There were no noticable glitches that I found and I was able to keep the quality high without lagging. All the different special weapons were very fun to use, but I wish there was some kind of meter that would tell you how long until your weapon ran out. I also liked how you snuck a Dynasty Street cameo in there. I remember that game. Really not much to complain about. The game is not exactly perfect, so unfortunately I have to give a nine which is pretty good coming from me and my new super harsh review policy. Things to work on would be making it easier to see where you fall off, especially in Dynasty Street and the forest level with the ponds. Also different taunts for different bodies/hands would be a nice touch. I can tell a ton of work went into the making of this game and everything has been polished nicely. This is a great game and I hope to see more from Dissolute in the future!

Super Smash Flash

"Yeah you read that right. Overall: 3"

submission: Super Smash Flash
date: August 26, 2006

I'm sorry, but this game just doesn't live up to the hype that surrounded it so fast. To start off, the sprites were nice but lacked fluidity. For instance, why didn't you use the Samus SSBM custom instead of the SNES sprite. The custom edits were terrible, like Samus's beams. The character choices weren't so great in my opinion. I personally thought more Nintendo characters should have been in instead of so many damn anime characters. But hey, that's up to you. The sound quality was pretty good and original voice acting was a nice touch. However it did get annoying (especially "ChOoSe YoUr ChArAcTeR!!"). But where the game really fell apart was the gameplay. I'm sorry, but even the novelty of an SSBM flash game cannot balance out the glitches that absolutely plagued the game. Teleportation, the levels enemies can attack you about a hundred times in a row before you escape, huge lag on the floating platform stage, people can hit the space around you, the list goes on. I know I'm grading fairly harshly, but that's just because this doesn't deserve all the immense praise it's getting. You should have worked on this longer and done a better job debugging. If you just polished this more you could have probably netted an 8 from me. Try harder next time.
